Happy Marathon Season! To all my friends, family and colleagues who are heading towards their first marathon or their 50th: breathe, taper, hydrate, fuel and stay positive. The image above is me after accomplishing a hard fought goal: complete a marathon on every continent. It is the image of elation and triumph--a proud moment in my marathon journey. It is also the moment in which I asked myself--well, now that I have
accomplished this goal: what's next?
I refer to this syndrome as “More is Never Enough." While it is not always a bad thing to set new goals, we need to appreciate what we have accomplished, take the time to savor reaching a goal before charging on to another
one.
It is common for people who work hard towards a lofty goal to forget to savor it once it is accomplished, as they often feel undefined without a seemingly unattainable goal to work towards. For high achievers, this often leads to dissatisfaction, melancholy, boredom and burnout burnout when we don’t take time to reflect, rest and recover before asking: Now what?
In order help address this struggle and offer some of you the tools to bring focus, purpose and joy back into your lives, I am offering a 4-week course starting on October 28. Please see below for some more information about the course and a
link for you to join.
For now, breathe deep and take in the experience. In the wise words of Chicagoan Ferris Bueller: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it!"
